Latvia

It is the last country that has joined the Eurozone. On January 1st 2014 the Euro became the official currency in Latvia. Latvia has become the 18th member state to adopt the Euro.

After a tough year of crisis for the Euro, this incorporation of Latvia to the Eurozone is a positive sign that solutions come out of crises, and that Europe and the Euro are not the problem but the solution. We need more Europe.

The cooperation of the countries is what has enabled the success of some countries that would not be able to survive on their own. The experience of more than 60 years building the European process has shown that the crises have also served to take positions and to move forward in the union.

To be taken into account:
DOf the 28 countries of the EU, the 18 ones that are part of the Eurozone are: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain.

There are also some non-EU States and territories that have agreements with the EU in order to have the Euro as their currency, such as Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican. In fact, the Euro is also used in Andorra, and they are about to start issuing their own Euros in the next few months.
